About Quilt around the World
Since founding Quilt around the World in 2010, we have been guided by one vision: to bring quilters together across borders, languages, and cultures – building a global community rooted in openness, respect, and the shared love of patchwork and quilting. From the very beginning, we have been committed to remaining independent from the global quilt industry, while following our own path rather than chasing every trend.
Throughout the years, we have supported numerous community quilting activities, including our popular International Block Swaps with travelling exhibitions in Germany and abroad. With initiatives such as our Patchwork Puzzles and Coincidence Quilt Projects, we have offered creative ideas beyond the boundaries of traditional patchwork and quilting, while fostering meaningful exchange among quilters worldwide.
For many years, the patchwork design software Electric Quilt has been an essential tool in our quilt design process. To make it easier for German-speaking quilters to discover and enjoy this powerful design program, we offer EQ8 software licenses (only available in English) along with our exclusive German translation of the official EQ8 reference manual. In recent years, we've expanded our support by developing a wide range of online courses and workshops on EQ8 and quilt design tailored to quilters of all skill levels – from curious beginners to seasoned designers.
As we all know, life does not always run smoothly or as expected. Thus, over the years, we have adjusted the focus of our work for Quilt around the World more than once. But one thing has never changed: our passion for quilting and our desire to share it with others. No matter where the road takes us in the future, we want to stay true to who we are and keep working toward our goal — to inspire quilters around the world with refreshing creative ideas, and our love for this unique textile art form.
About Jutta
Hello, my name is Jutta Hufnagel. I live in Munich and I am the creative mind behind Quilt around the World.
Fabrics and textiles have been part of my life for as long as I can remember – and some 30 years ago, I discovered my passion for patchwork and quilting. I see myself as a "craft quilter": driven and inspired by materials and techniques, by colours, shapes, textures and the many stories that can be told with needle and thread.
I love sharing my enthusiasm for patchwork, quilting and design and the knowledge I've gathered over the years – as a course instructor, author, and accredited quilt judge. One project especially close to my heart is the My Year of Design course and book series. It invites quilters and textile makers to get off the beaten path of designing quilts and textile pices via exercises that nurture reflection, spark playful experimentation, and encourage thinking beyond the expected.
In my blog, I'd like to share my thoughts and views on the fascinating world of quilting with you. I'll keep you updated on new collaborative projects at Quilt around the World, give you a glimpse into the progress of my own textile work, and talk about all the other things that inspire and move me these days.
